NIGEL HAVERS named as
Bunbury Players Patron!
Actor Nigel Havers has become patron
of the Bunbury Players amateur
dramatics society after a strange
coincidence put him in contact with the
group’s chairman.
Darren Mather received a phone call
from Mr Havers, who has starred in
Chariots of Fire and Coronation Street, to discuss a coincidence with the group’s name and his latest project.
Mr Mather is chairman of The Bunbury Players. Mr Havers is set to perform The Importance of Being Earnest with a company called The Bunbury Company of Players and called to warn him he may receive misdirected enquiries.
After what Mr Mather described as the ‘most bizarre seven minute phone call of my life’ he requested that Mr Havers become The Bunbury Players’ patron.
Mr Havers said: “How delighted and honoured I am to become a patron of something so dear to my heart, especially as it is in my beloved Suffolk.
“As the ‘fake’ Bunburys are now in rehearsal for The Importance of Being Earnest, it seems appropriate to add a quote from the master himself – old Oscar... ‘The only thing to do with good advice is to pass it on. It is never of any use to oneself’.”
Mr Mather said: “I am delighted that Nigel has become our patron, this means a lot to me and to The Bunbury Players.
